Caucasus Tavern (Kavkaz)
Printable
Version
The
Caucasus Tavern is our favorite, everyday restaurant in
Yerevan. The food is combination of Armenian and Georgian
cuisine. The restaurant is located on Hanrapetutian Street,
not far from Sayat Nova Avenue.
Restaurant Design
- Excellent
From outside there
is nothing special about Caucasus Tavern, but once inside
you notice very well executed old style design. It has two
levels, basement and the street level. The large wooden
columns and rock walls create a cave atmosphere. In the
middle of basement level you will find a small creek and
wooden bridge that complements to the design theme. The
last interesting detail is clay glasses that make even standard
wine taste better.
Service - Good
The service in Caucasus
Tavern is good. The staff is courteous and helpful, but
nothing special. Live music on some days with the Partapzuk
(Bagpipe) adds Caucasian flavor the great food.
Food and Drinks - Excellent
Caucasus Tavern
has the best homemade style food in the Yerevan. The images
of dishes in the menu make it easy to choose from huge variety
of offerings. We could not resist the temptation and ordered
many appetizers and few main courses. From the main courses
we liked the Harisa (Chicken gruel), Chkrtma (The chicken
soup), Fried potato and Fried mushrooms. Appetizers were
all perfect, especially Jonjoli (marinated acacia flowers)
and pickled vegetables. The Areni red dry wine was perfect,
but semi-sweet Vernashen did not go well with the food.
Prices - Moderate
$$$
We rate Caucasus
Tavern moderately priced restaurant a good dinner with wine
and appetizers will cost you under $10 per person. Almost
all their dishes are moderately priced.
