Dolmama
is an interesting restaurant that serves traditional, ancient Armenian
food.
It is very popular with Westerners, so we decided to experience it ourselves.
Dolmama's advertisement is "Dolmama the Armenia's Restaurant".
We think that there are so many great restaurants in Yerevan that are
much more interesting and deserve that catchphrase. What we found is
a good food, great interior design, and very high prices. The restaurant
is located on the Pushkin Street, just few feet from the Abovian Street.
Restaurant Design - Very Good
Dolmama's building is an old Yerevan's house, nicely transformed into
the small restaurant with the great sitting area in the balcony. Overall,
we liked the design it stands out among other restaurants and executed
in modest way.
Service - Good
Service in Dolmama was good and the waiter was polite and courteous.
The air was clean and not contaminated with the cigarette smoke. The
only problem we found, was the design of the menu, it was not easy to
reed and understand.
Food and Drinks - Good
The food was good. We ordered their famous dolma, it was interesting
dish, but different from the traditional dolma dishes that common in
Armenia. The menu selection was also limited to just a few main dishes.
We recommend trying their bread; it is something unique with caraway
seeds. Overall Dolmama is worth the visit, but do not forget that there
are other great restaurants in Yerevan.
Prices - Very Expensive
$$$$$
Dolmama is a very expensive restaurant. A dolma dish costs something
around $20 per person. It is out or reach for most locals. Although
we are accustomed to the restaurant prices in the US, we have found
the Dolmama is the most overpriced restaurant in Yerevan.
