The restaurant is
really impressive from outside and looks a small castle.
Monte
Christo is located in Hrazdan Gorge. It is a very impressive place and
perfectly suited for a good meal in the company of friends. The restaurant
is in the very nice area, surrounded by the trees and river. It is a
great place to spend nice summer evening at the cool Hrazdan River.
If you drink too much, the waiter will gladly call the taxi and you
can leave your car with the attendant.
Restaurant Design - Very Good
One can guess that the name Monte Christo somehow related to the old,
castle look of the restaurant. The building is impressive from outside,
but interior design is not as exceptional as we thought. Inside, you
will find the interior that looks like a poor imitation of an old castle
with large wooden tables and chairs. An interesting element of the design
was round terraces overhanging above the river. The terraces and the
cool breeze from the river create very comfortable dining atmosphere
during the hot summer evenings.
Service - Good
Service in Monte Christo is good, but nothing exceptional. We ended
up waiting for waitress for a while, but considering that the place
was full, it was acceptable. Overall, service was similar to the majority
of Proshian Street restaurants. The only annoyance was very loud music
that hampered our conversations.
Food and Drinks - Very Good
One of the best elements
of the design are overhanging dining terraces.
Food
in Monte Christo is very good, but limited to traditional Armenian cuisine.
Our order covered entire table with dishes of various barbeques, trout,
appetizers and few bottles of vodkas. We recommend their mixed barbeque
from lamb, pork and beef. If you want to experience Armenian traditional
marinated, herb appetizer try shushan. The Monte Christo also has a
great variety of drinks, we suggest Russian vodka with the barbeque
and Areni wine.
Prices - Expensive $$$$
The prices are expensive, but acceptable. Table for 4 persons including
a barbeque variety, appetizers, trout and 3 bottles of best Russian
vodka will cost you around $100. So, is around $25 per person with excessive
drinks.
